Set up Roku

After installing Pandora from the Channel Store of your Roku Device, use the following activation steps to get started:

Choose either option of signing into an existing account or creating a new Pandora account from the Welcome page.

To create a new account, follow the on-screen prompts to enter the requested registration information and accept the Terms of Service to create your Pandora account.

For an existing account, use the Roku remote to type in your email address and password.

Navigating Roku

To navigate the Roku app, just press the Up Arrow on your Roku remote to display the Menu Bar located at the top of your screen. From here you can see the name of the currently playing track, access your stations list, browse and search for new tunes, or adjust your account settings.

The Menu Bar will disappear after a period of time, but you can always press the Up Arrow on your Roku remote to access again.

If you need to find new content or adjust your settings, you can always press the home button on the Roku remote to manually navigate back to the main Pandora app.

Sort Stations on Roku

You can adjust the way your music collection is sorted by opening the Pandora app* and pressing the up arrow on your remote until you reach the menu at the top of the screen. Select Settings and then Content Settings.

Here you'll see the option to your playlists by Recent or Sort A-Z.

Delete Stations on Roku

  1. Open Pandora* and go to My Stations (or My Music sorted by Stations if you're a Pandora Premium subscriber).

  2. Move your cursor over the name of the station you'd like to delete and press the star button on your remote.

This should display the option to delete the station (or remove it from My Music).

*If you have an earlier model of Roku, you may need to delete those stations from our website or another device. Any changes you make on another device will carry over to your Roku.

Voice Commands on Roku

Free and Pandora Plus listeners can ask to play stations they've collected, while Pandora Premium listeners can request any stations, albums, playlists or songs that they've added to My Music.

You can also use voice commands to skip a currently playing track, to adjust the volume of your device, or to play or pause your music.

However, which voice commands you can use depends on how you open Pandora, because there are actually two versions of Pandora on your Roku device:

  • If you open the Pandora app from the main Roku menu, you'll only be able to skip tracks or play or pause the music using voice commands. However, you can perform other functions with your remote, such as searching for new content to add to your collection, or adjusting your settings.
  • If you open Pandora by voice command (i.e. by pressing the microphone button on your device and request that it "Play [something from your Pandora collection] on Pandora"), your Roku device will automatically open the second version of Pandora: a voice-integrated Now Playing screen with limited features but plenty of voice commands.

If you need to find new content or adjust your settings, you can always press the home button on the Roku remote to manually navigate back to the main Pandora app.

Keep in mind that some Roku devices may not yet have the ability to leverage voice commands. If you are not able to use voice commands with Pandora, make sure to keep your device's firmware up to date, as that's how Roku will deliver that functionality to you.

Log into another Pandora Account on Roku

At this time each Roku account can only be associated with one Pandora account, so you won't be able to use multiple Pandora accounts on a single Roku device. If you want to listen to two different Pandora accounts, you'll need:

  • two Roku devices
  • two Roku accounts (one on each).

If you have more than one Roku device and have already signed them into the same Roku account, you can manage your devices using the following steps:

  1. Go to my.roku.com on your computer or smartphone.
  2. If you are not already logged in, sign in to your Roku account.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the My account page and locate the device under the My linked devices section.
  4. Select Unlink on the correct device, and confirm your choice.

Then you can associate that Roku device with a new Roku account (and thereafter, with a new Pandora account). If you need to, you can create a Roku account here.

Explicit Content Filtering on Roku

Explicit Content filtering is on by default for in-home products like Roku devices, since they are frequently used in family settings.

To adjust the Explicit Content settings on your Roku device:

  1. Press the Up Arrow on your remote to display the Menu at top of the screen.
  2. Scroll over to select Settings and you'll see the options for Explicit Content under Content Settings.*
  3. You will be prompted to input your current Pandora password to save this setting.

*To ensure you open the main Pandora app (and not our voice-enabled lightweight app), open Pandora from the menu of your Roku, not via voice command.

Update Roku Software

If you are still having trouble with your device, please check if there's an update available for your Roku software.

For more information on how to update, check out this article from Roku.

Troubleshooting your Roku

If you're having trouble using Pandora on your Roku, try restarting your device:

  1. Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System, then Power.
  4. Select System restart.

If you're still having trouble, remove and reinstall the Pandora app:

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote.
  2. Move to the right and highlight the Pandora app.
  3. Press Star * on your Roku remote to open the Options menu.
  4. Select Remove app and confirm when prompted.
