Use Pandora with Google Assistant

After linking your Pandora account to Google Assistant, you can use voice commands to play music, create stations, and control playback.

Link Your Pandora Account

  • Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  • Tap Settings (the gear icon).
  • Scroll down to the Services section and tap Music.
  • Under More music services, tap the Link icon next to Pandora.

    • New to Pandora: Select Sign Up and complete the registration form to create an account.
    • Existing Pandora listener: Select Sign In and enter your Pandora credentials.
  • Confirm the authorization request to complete the connection. Once your account is linked, you can start listening with Google Assistant.

Voice Commands

Here are some voice commands you can use with Google Assistant and Pandora.

Play Music and Podcasts

  • Play a station: "Ok Google, play ____ station on Pandora."
  • Create a station: "Ok Google, create a ____ station on Pandora."
  • Play Thumbprint Radio: "Ok Google, play my Thumbprint Radio on Pandora."
  • Play music by genre, mood, or activity: "Ok Google, play Music for Cooking on Pandora." or "Ok Google, play a Hip Hop station on Pandora."

  • Adjust the volume: "Ok Google, turn it up." or "Ok Google, turn it down."
  • Stop playing Pandora: "Ok Google, stop the music."

Use Pandora with Gemini

Gemini for Home is Google's AI-powered voice assistant available on supported Google devices. In addition to controlling compatible smart home devices and answering conversational requests, Gemini for Home supports music services such as Pandora.

If your Pandora account is already linked in the Google Home app, you can use many of the same voice commands that were available with Google Assistant.

You can ask Gemini to play songs, artists, albums, playlists, genres, and stations on Pandora*.

Play music

  • Play [album name] on Pandora
  • Play [song name] by [artist name] on Pandora
  • Play my Pandora playlist called [playlist name]
  • Play music for [activity] on  Pandora
  • Play [genre] music on Pandora
  • Play my Thumbprint Radio on Pandora

*Actual functionality will vary based on subscription type. With Pandora Premium, listeners can ask to play a specific song, album, or playlist on demand.

Set Pandora as your preferred music service

If you have more than one music app connected and don’t specify one in your request, Gemini may use the last music app you used. Setting Pandora as your default music provider allows you to play music on your Google devices without needing to say "on Pandora" at the end of every voice command.

How to change your Default Music Provider

  • Open the Google Home app on your mobile device.
  • Tap Settings (the gear icon).
  • Scroll down to the Services section and select Music.
  • Under the Your music services section, tap the selection bubble next to Pandora.
  • Once selected, Google Assistant will automatically use Pandora whenever you request music.

Setting up Pandora on Google Nest or Google Home

First, make sure that your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Nest or Google Home.

Then you can manually link your account to your device by:

  1. Opening the Google Home app.
  2. In the top right corner, tap Account.
  3. Confirm the Google Account visible is the one connected to your Google Nest or Google Home device.
  4. Go back to the home screen.
  5. Tap Add in the top left corner, then Music and audio.
  6. Select Pandora, the Pandora app should then launch.
  7. Agree to link your account and you're all set.

Troubleshooting Pandora on Google Home

  1. Make sure the Google Home app and Pandora app are up to date.
  2. Restart your Google Home or Google Nest device.
  3. Unlink and relink your Pandora account in the Google Home app.
  4. Confirm you're signed into the correct Google Account associated with your speaker or display.
